Why become a mentor?

Mentoring, at its core, guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter. Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships have powerful positive effects on young people in a variety of personal, academic, and professional situations. Ultimately, mentoring connects a young person to personal growth and development, and social and economic opportunity. Yet one in three young people will grow up without this critical asset.

1 in 3 young people will grow up without having a mentor

Either through a formal mentoring program or informally through a family friend or community member, leaving them disconnected from a critical resource to help with these very things.

  • Increased high school graduation rates

  • Lower high school dropout rates

  • Healthier relationships and lifestyle choices

  • Better attitude about school

  • Higher college enrollment rates and higher educational aspirations

  • Enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence

  • Improved behavior, both at home and at school

  • Stronger relationships with parents, teachers, and peers

  • Improved interpersonal skills

  • Decreased likelihood of initiating drug and alcohol use

THE WORK OF URBANLIFE MENTORS

EST. 2018

In 2010, URBANLIFE began its journey in youth work. Within local schools, neighborhoods and the faith community, URBANLIFE has focused on developing leaders on a mentorship level. In 2018 ULM became an official non-profit organization that Cares for, Educates and Develops youth, young adults and families. URBANLIFE is made up of amazing people. The mentoring process (Native Design) and its Values were created to inspire those within the organization and beyond. We believe that a healthy community can help build the right character for a successful life. URBANLIFE Mentors has become an extended family for many and desires to be a sustainable resource providing wisdom and support for many years to come.
