WHAT WE DO
We mentor urban youth to a higher standard for life by creating structures of safety, trust and respect within a nurturing environment.
OUR MENTORING PROCESS
WHY WE DO
To care for, educate and develop Oakland's young emerging leaders that will inspire the world.
URBANLIFE Mentors was EST. 2010 and officially became a non-profit organization in June of 2018. URBANLIFE Mentors Inc. developed its Native Design and what started off as a group of youth and young adults in our East Oakland neighborhood, has matured into a meaningful and influential city wide mentoring organization. Much of the organizations time and focus is spent within its own backyard, West Oakland's Acorn and Lower Bottoms neighborhoods. ULM Inc. is made up of amazing people, it's more like family than an organization. Still in the development stages, ULM Inc. is making moves with high standards of mentoring and discipleship that has made the organization unique and impactful.
OUR MENTORING PROCESS
COMMUNITY & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT |
We care for, empower and resource the diverse families that we are intentionally engaging with.
Whatever space we are in, we offer hope and come alongside urban youth as a functional extended family. This is expressed in the way we protect, serve and enjoy life together. We cultivate a culture of genuine relationships where we rely on and support one another to help strengthen community.
EDUCATION SUPPORT I
We educate urban youth within our neighborhoods and expose them to healthy life options. We provide homework help, facilitate workshops and motivational speaking. It takes a vision when it comes to life planning. We take the time to listen, process and give wisdom, helping youth and families make choices that reflect their values.
We develop the next generation of emerging leaders providing three areas of formation: Expression, Giveback and Faith. We create a space to place the lonely in families by providing quality mentors that help nurture and encourage those we serve, stewarding their life towards a greater purpose.
Expression is the unique story and talent within each one of us. It’s also the ability to express our feelings and emotions. We help leaders understand their identity by discovering their passions. We provide creative outlets to learn how and what we are created for.
Giveback everyone has something to give. Giving of our time, talent and finances teaches servant leadership with humility and simplicity. We serve and love our neighborhoods by meeting its practical and spiritual needs.
Faith is the framework and foundation displayed in our life’s work and passion. The Gospel is the hope of the world. We partner with the restorative work of Holy Spirit: building up people and healing the broken-hearted. We engage in spiritual development that is simply rooted in God's love, prayer and discipline that produces faithful healthy leaders who have the character to coincide with their calling.
